Very Ill Man Feasted by a Legion of Bed Bugs in His Apartment

bugs 300x228 Very Ill Man Feasted by a Legion of Bed Bugs in His ApartmentOne bed bug is enough to make you feel the most miserable sensation on your skin ever. But a sick man in the area of Exmouth Street and Indian Road was said feasted by bed bugs in his apartment.

The ambulance alerted the police in advance on their way to assist them on transporting the man. Two years ago, the ambulance already had dealt with the sick man and told the police about the bed bug scenario.

Just when they arrived, a veteran police officer said he can’t believe that the bed bugs were crawling on the man and across the bed in the living room. They have to remove numerous bed bugs from the ill man before transporting him due to unrelated issues. But before the officer was able to resume his duties, he bagged his uniform and took a shower.

Scenario like this happens because of the fact that people are not well-educated about how to treat bed bug infestations in their homes. Most likely, majority think that only a hired professional exterminator would be able to battle the bed bugs and prevent them from coming back. This method could cost thousands of dollars that not all bed bug victims can afford.

However, most people prefer using very toxic Bed Bug Spray to kill them. But health professionals always point out the obvious health risks of pesticide agents without knowing how dangerous chemicals can be to our body as well as to our pets.

A Sarnia Police officer might have wished for bug spray instead of pepper spray after a recent encounter with a Sarnia man crawling with bed bugs.

Const. Heather Emmons said the officer was called to assist a man in medical distress. On the way to the call he was warned by paramedics that the man’s apartment in the area of Exmouth Street and Indian Road was infested with bed bugs.

“The officers said he’d never seen anything like it,” she said. “They were so visible.”

The bugs, which are four to five millimetres in length and feed on human blood, could be seen crawling on the man, Emmons said. After helping get the man medical treatment the officer had to bag his uniform and take a shower, she said.

“It’s a whole health and safety issue with us. When we’re dealing with someone who has a wound, we carry rubber gloves, but we don’t have a rubber suit to protect us from bed bugs.”

The police don’t normally have to protect themselves against blood-sucking insects, she said.
